The Grange

A beautiful home with a clear focus on therapeutic support and providing an environment as close as possible to a family home where young people can enjoy positive experiences. The Grange is a residential care home set in a semi-rural location that has been chosen carefully for children and young people aged 10 – 17 with social, emotional and mental health issues which may impact on their behaviour. Support is provided by an extensively experienced and diverse staff team and every activity and intervention is planned around the individual needs of the young person.

Accommodation and location

The Grange is a beautiful four bedroomed, detached property, set in half an acre of grounds on the outskirts of the village of Annfield Plain, which lies near Durham, Gateshead and Newcastle. The property is ideally located to benefit from some of the most beautiful countryside and coastal landscapes in Britain.

The whole ambiance of The Grange (décor, furniture and accessories) is designed to encourage warmth and stability, within a carefully planned structure, where clear boundaries will be respectively set to ensure all children and young people can live in a safe environment and to experience and discover a sense of their own growth.

Clinical Support

The home uses the services of a contracted Clinical Psychologist who has extensive experience of working with children and young people around behavioural difficulties and risk-taking behaviour. The clinical psychologist can also be consulted in the development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans and Risk Enabling Assessments where necessary.

Where appropriate, clinicians may visit the home on a regular basis to work with young people and to provide consultative services with the staff team. The clinicians will discuss with staff any issues that are of concern but, more importantly, will work with children, young people and staff to develop strategies to help them understand their behaviour and work towards reducing incidents of aggression or potential risk to themselves and others. Clinicians will also work closely with parents/carers, foster carers and social workers to develop strategies for successful re-unification planning.
